Media training

Training that creates confident spokespeople

Scott Hamilton Media works with some of the world’s biggest brands and organisations and our media training helps create engaging, insightful, confident, credible, and authentic spokespeople to tell those brands’ stories.

Our training provides an understanding of the modern media landscape, clarity about the media ‘deal’ and the risk and reward that media exposure brings. We help spokespeople understand the audience and their needs because what they think matters. And we use real examples to highlight the pitfalls and dangers of speaking on the record.

A toolkit for media interviews

We use a straight-forward toolkit to ensure muscle memory around what to say and what to do. Stage one is preparation – building key messages and supporting detail that work for you and your audience. Then stage two is about rehearsal and delivery. Next, stage three focuses on analysing likely questions and using our techniques to nail the answers. Then it’s practice, practice, practice, both for the easy questions and the tough ones.

Finding that authentic media voice

We work closely with leaders and comms teams to understand your organisation’s goals and values and help your spokespeople reflect and defend them. That’s why we get under the skin of your issues, working to create realistic scenarios for every session.

Personalising the training to fit every individual is crucial, so next we work to get under the skin of the spokesperson, too. We focus on optimising the potential of each individual and helping them find an authentic voice. That can mean building confidence, embedding empathy or polishing delivery, embedding learning through example, visualisation and repetition.

Filming every interview creates training that sticks

We use on-camera training, filming delegates as they improve their skills, increasing the pressure and reflecting real world media reactions. This builds that crucial capacity to see past the heart-thumping reaction and be able to analyse their own performance.

In the days after their session, each spokesperson receives the videos of their interviews, along with personalised feedback, and key tips for developing their skills. That means the training and development carry on long afterwards and that’s a key part of why our learning sticks.
